— Beatrix to Cid, Light Novel Volume 02 |
Beatrix (ベアトリクス, Beatorikusu?) is the first champion of the Bushin Festival, hailed as the War Goddess (
Appearance[]
Beatrix is a beautiful elf with well-refined features and a voluptuous figure. She is always seen carrying a sword by her side. She has long platinum hair, blue eyes, and pale skin. Cid notes that she bears a striking resemblance to Alpha, so much so that one wouldn't be blamed for assuming they are related.
Her attire consists of a gray robe with tattered edges, a white bikini top, and a black short skirt with gold accessories. She wears a leg stocking on her right leg, starting just above the ankle and ending in the middle of her thigh, while her left leg is mostly bare, save for two straps. For accessories, she dons black gloves, a jewel-adorned hairband, and a necklace featuring what appears to be a sapphire.
In the novel and manga, she wields a double-edged longsword with a gold hilt, decorated with black and blue accents. The scabbard is designed in white with gold and black accents. However, in the anime version, her weapon is a single-edged straight sword, similar to a katana but without the curved blade.
Personality[]

— Beatrix to Cid Kagenou, Light Novel Volume 02 |
Beatrix is shown to be a mature person but is typically passed off as stoic individual that is socially awkward and with an aloof attitude. This confuses others and makes them question whether her title is a true testament or exaggeration initially. Her tactless nature may be seen by others as someone who speaks her thoughts out loud without filter, but she is still polite to those that engages with her.[1]
Beatrix has a degree of self-confident and seems to have a determined attitude as seen by her unyielding desire to achieve her goals by finding her niece. Beatrix, like Shadow, also feels a strong attraction to face off against powerful opponents when she is able to find them. She is not above teaming up with others to defeat larger threats as shown by her alliance with Iris Midgar.[1][2]
Beatrix maintains her friendly, kind and loving presence with people she likes, and is intuitive enough to avoid the possibility of death in combat when faced with very strong enemies. This is in contrast to Iris Midgar, who is carried away by her rage and revenge to the point of willingly sacrificing everything to kill Shadow.[2]
Powers & Abilities[]
Beatrix is hailed as one of if not the strongest swordswomen in the world, with Iris Midgar, the strongest swordswoman in the Midgar Kingdom, openly admitting that Beatrix is stronger than her. The Cult of Diablos believes that she had inherited the power of her ancestor; the "Elf Hero" Olivier. She even managed to hold her own against Shadow, at least until the latter got a "little serious".
Physical Prowess[]
Beatrix's strength and speed are on par with Shadow who was holding back, with Cid himself notes that her movements are so fast that a normal person would not be able to perceive them.[3] She also adapts quickly, initially being overwhelmed by Shadow's But she gradually increases the strength of her own sword strikes to match his, each sword strike from Beatrix and Shadow was so strong, that the shockwaves generated knocked down multiple buildings. Physically, Beatrix has a very high resistance to physical attacks and magically amplified damage., even managing to recover moments later, even if the damage is almost fatal. This was seen in her battle alongside Iris Midgar against Shadow, (although he held back the entire time).(Solo anime)[4]
As a result of her training, along with a century of experience, Beatrix has the ability to read her opponents' movements. This allows her to study, analyze, and counteract their attacks before they reach her. During her fight with Shadow, another user of this ability, the two were able to counteract each other's attacks at super-fast speeds, making it look as if they were teleporting throughout the stadium. Still, Beatrix's movement reading pales in comparison to Shadow's, preferring to rely on her agility, and she was unable to continue keeping up with him once he got a little serious.[5][4]
Beatrix possesses supernatural senses, especially in sight and mainly in smell, possibly rivaling the Therianthropes in terms of tracking, managing to see the attacks and feints that Shadow performed disguised as Jimina Sehnne against Iris Midgar, and noticing the elven smell that Cid had with him or the suspicious and unpleasant perfume that Raphael Geerk Oriana possessed.[3][1]
Elf Swordmaster[]
Hailed as the first champion of the Bushin Tournament, nicknamed the Goddess of War and an Elven Master of the Sword, Beatrix swordsmanship was described as the pinnacle of the art, and only Shadow could match and even surpass her in it, managing to slice through the rain itself in the process in their first encounter at the Bushin Festival, of manner very quickly.[3][2] Shadow complimented her, saying that her skills were almost equal to his subordinates in Shadow Garden and his own in swordsmanship, Beatrix's swordsmanship style in the anime seems to be based on Iaijutsu. During their confrontation, Beatrix began to be able to counter Shadow's surprise attacks very quickly, (though he, for his part, only played and held back against her).[ANIME ONLY][4]
Warrior Perception: Beatrix has sharp instincts honed through her experiences as a swordswoman, being able to determine the strength of others just by that alone. She could even discern Cid's true abilities despite his facade and defend against Shadow's 'invisible' blade for a short duration. However, this ability does not seem to be fully perfected. Although able to tell how strong a person can become with just a touch, she cannot discern how much of that potential has already been realized, as shown when Cid was able to still fool her when she initially saw through him.[6]
Magic[]
Beatrix as such, possesses great magical power, but according to Shadow words, although Beatrix swordsmanship is almost on par with the members of Shadow Garden, her magic leaves much to be desired, implying that Beatrix lacks good or standard use of it.[ANIME ONLY][4] Despite the misuse of her magic, Beatrix demonstrated the ability to use her magic in a way that allows her to move very quickly, the ability to run on walls, and the ability to run and walk on liquid bodies such as rivers.[4] In an offensive manner, Beatrix sheathes her sword, channels her magic into the blade and finally draws it from the sheath to unleash a powerful and fast slash capable of cutting half of her enemy's body, (although for now, the effectiveness of the attack has not been seen). [4]
Intelligence[]
Equipment[]
- Long Sword: So far, the only main weapon she uses is a magical semi-adorned longsword, which allows her to fight and channel her magic in a very extreme way. Although the weapon is made of a kind of metal that is good as a conductor, more than normal metal, it is still inferior to the magic conductivity of Shadow Garden's slime weapons and suits. It is speculated that being a special metal (possibly stainless steel), its conductivity of magic must be 30% at most, compared to normal metal which is 10%.
